About

Join researchers, students, artists and local community groups for a FREE day out packed with activities and events!

Get ready for a day of creativity, discovery and inspiration as Arts and Humanities Day returns! Celebrating the people, stories, research and innovation that shape the University of Southampton, our city and wider region, this family-friendly event invites you to explore what it means to be human through a vibrant programme of free interactive activities, workshops, talks, exhibitions and live performances. Suitable for all ages, Arts and Humanities Day will return to Southampton Cultural Quarter on Saturday 14th November, 10:30 – 16:30, bringing together researchers, students and community partners.

With more than 40 activities taking place across the Southampton Cultural Quarter, a little planning can help you get the most out of your visit. Plan your perfect day – From interactive experiences and live performances to workshops, talks and exhibitions, there’s plenty to discover throughout the day. Activities will take place at Sir James Matthews Building and 1 Guildhall Square with additional activities and events hosted at John Hansard Gallery, Mayflower Studios and Southampton City Art Gallery.

Explore the full programme online before you arrive, and pick up a free festival brochure when you check in on the day at one of our Welcome Desks or Welcome Points. Book your place in advance –  Arts and Humanities Day is FREE to attend, but registration for general admission via Eventbrite is required. Some activities also have limited capacity and require additional booking, so it’s worth securing your place early. For more information please take a look at our programme of events here.

From exploring supernatural otherworlds and uncovering the archaeology of folklore, to playing historic instruments, discovering hidden stories, and immersing yourself in games, music and creativity, there really is something for everyone to explore, and we look forward to welcoming you soon.
