About
Join Dr Duygu Candarli, Lecturer in the Department of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics, at the University of Southampton for an engaging exploration of how language plays a vital role in digital investigations. Dr Candarli’s research examines language use in real-world contexts, and she led the development of a multilingual digital forensics mini dictionary in collaboration with police officers and forensic science experts across five countries.
In this interactive session, you will discover how linguistics helps create clear and consistent digital forensics terminology, supporting professionals as they interpret and investigate digital evidence. Through a short talk and an enjoyable quiz, you will explore the specialist vocabulary used in digital forensics and test your own knowledge along the way.
You will learn why precise terminology matters, how language can support digital investigations, and the challenges of communicating technical concepts across different languages and countries. You will also be introduced to a free online digital forensics dictionary and have the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about this fascinating area of research.
By the end of the session, you will have a greater understanding of the important role linguistics plays in digital forensics and the language that helps uncover digital evidence.
