The University has cemented its position as a world-leading educator by placing five of its subjects in the top 45 in the latest QS World Rankings by Subject.

Nursing is ranked 14th in the world, with archaeology 27th and Earth and marine sciences 28th. Geography placed at 41 with performing arts following closely at 43.

A number of other subjects also appear in the top 100, including computer science and information systems, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics and astronomy and statistics and operational research.

These results have led to Southampton’s best ever performance in the QS subject rankings, having been strongly driven by the University’s improved academic reputation.

The QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) rankings reflect internationally-recognised indicators of excellence in research and reputation among the world’s leading universities.

Professor Sir Christopher Snowden, President and Vice-Chancellor, said:

These results in the QS World Rankings by subject recognise Southampton’s excellence across a wide range of areas where the University has established an international reputation. Perhaps most importantly, these rankings reflect our impact as a University in the eyes of our peers in industry and academia, which reinforces our reputation around the world.
