We continue our monthly look at the work of the leadership team and the discussions they have on the University Executive Board (UEB).
This group, which provides the executive leadership for the University, brings together the President and Vice-Chancellor, Chief Operating Officer, deans, vice-presidents and the directors of Human Resources and Finance. They meet formally once each month for briefings, updates and to make decisions.
UEB sets the strategic direction and has oversight of how the University is managed, so finance, health and safety, and equality and diversity are on the agenda as standing items every month. The Board meets every week to have informal meetings to address emerging topics and formulate policy on a wide range of subjects which are taken forward to the formal monthly meetings for approval.
UEB met informally over the summer period and continued to discuss the 10-year plan, which is aimed at realising the University strategy. In particular, UEB members focused their discussions on information and systems, the estate and our people, and considered actions and key performance indicators for these areas.
Progress on the 10-year plan was presented to Council on Tuesday, 27 September. A more detailed business case for the 10-year plan will be presented to Council in November, when it will be ratified. Professor Sir Christopher Snowden will update staff about the 10-year plan in his next address later in the autumn – look out for the dates on SUSSED.
Normal UEB meetings resumed at the beginning of September with one formal meeting per month for key decisions. We will be able to report on these in the next edition of Southampton Connects Staff.
