Celebrating the launch of our Delhi campus
In July, in a landmark moment for global education, we celebrated the opening of our campus in India – the University of Southampton Delhi. Hailed by Prime Minister Modi as “a new chapter”, the historic event officially marked the University as the very first international institution to establish a physical presence in the country, opening world-class academic opportunities for Indian students.
As University of Southampton Vice-Chancellor, Mark E. Smith, said: “Our Delhi campus builds on our long-standing relationship with India and fulfils our ambition to become a truly global institution, connecting students from around the world through Southampton’s ability to deliver outstanding education and world-leading research which has the power to transform lives.”
In September, the first students enrolled on programmes in business management, accounting and finance, computer science, economics and international management. By 2035, we expect to welcome up to 5,000 students every year.
Our 300,000-strong global alumni community includes more than 1,700 graduates from India.

Thank you to our Indian alumni volunteers
The opening event was also a chance for us to celebrate the incredible Indian alumni who have been instrumental in our successful launch, and whose efforts continue to enrich the experience of our students both in Delhi and Southampton.
We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to every volunteer who strengthens the student community by signing up to mentoring our pioneering cohort, builds or contributes to professional networks, and helps develop employability-enhancing opportunities.
“I am thrilled to see how this campus will empower students and foster a culture of innovation and inclusivity. The potential benefits for the local community are immense, promising growth and development, and I am proud to be part of this journey.”
Kaushal Shah, MSc Global Entrepreneurship, 2015 and Outstanding Alumni Award Winner 2023
